Your name, please? A.K.A. "A plea to my dear friends rjg, mullbt, and s_franks"
Category None
I've noticed that in my Notes Mail, about 50% of the mail I receive from other Notes shops comes to the Inbox with the mangled beginning of the email address in the "To" column. If you send email and it shows up in a format like "rnovak", "Rob_Novak", or "rob.novak", this tip is for you. Or rather, your administrator.
There are three advantages to having your name show up in others' Inboxes as a full name. Using the full name:
The setting you need to make to get from being known as "billybobs" to "William Robert Smith" is in the configuration document on the server. It's reached by following the tabs to MIME > Advanced > Advanced Outbound Message Options. The field is the second one on that tab, "RFC822 Phrase Handling". RFC 822 is a 24-year old standards document that defines how fields in email should work. If it's set to "Do not add phrase", the default, you get what I've been seeing from those 50%. If it's changed to "Use CN as phrase", and you're using the Domino directory with normal names as the CN component, your mail will arrive with the full name in the Inbox column. If I had this turned off on my server, you'd receive mail from me and you would see just "rnovak" in your inbox.
It is an easy change that makes a big difference. "Just do it"

- Looks more professional
- Makes searching by name easier (when you don't have to remember the underscore, period, or email address)
- Makes functions such as "Add sender to address book" work better

1. On your location document, enter your email address in the "internet mail address" field in this format:
"Firstname Lastname"<first.last@domino-weblog.nl>
2. Prevent your administrator from overwriting your location document: put the location document in edit mode, and choose Advanced - set update flag, and choose 'no'.
That should do

Now I have to think of something else so I can continue my unprecedented 10-day streak.
