Advisor Summit next week - and some HTML for you, Rocky
Category None
I had a discussion with Rocky the other day about some BlogSphere functionality, and somehow the conversation turned into him shaming me for not hand-coding the HTML on my postings - something I used to do more often, but I suppose I have gotten lazy in my old age. So partially to satisfy my own occasional need for a coding fix, and partially to prove to him that I still can craft a half-decent page, I decided to write this blog entry the old-fashioned way. While I was at it, I figured I might as well Ajax-enable it.
Oh, and make it pretty.
So, here are the sessions that Viktor and I will be presenting next week at Advisor Summit in Las Vegas. If you're coming, let me know and come say hi!

Have you ever noticed that using so-called "proprietary" Notes mail, there's more than a dozen ways to extend the messaging environment out to alternative clients, devices, systems, and applications? Let's take a tour of the most popular ways Notes mail is accessed, visiting the standards and protocols used to accomplish these feats of e-mail dexterity. Then, we'll really "geek out," covering some new territory in messaging, including various integration points with WebSphere Portal and Workplace, mobile devices, and other alternative access points. You'll come away with a great understanding of your options to extend Notes mail to new clients, what the basic steps to deploying each one entails, and a good foundation to go back home and offer these options.

Come find out what's different, what's the same, how you can use what you already know to develop rich forms-based applications for Workplace. This isn't a "throw everything you know about Domino out the window" session, because it's not that kind of product. For instance, did you know that the chief developer of Workplace Designer was also in charge of Domino Designer? Or that the authors of the Workplace Designer certification exam (your presenter being one of them) were Domino geeks? No coincidences here! Come grab a seat and see how you can easily move into the world of Workplace development...you have the skills...you have the technology!

The "one login" mantra has been around for years. Companies have formed around it, billions of dollars are spent each year on it, and many have died defending it (ok, a stretch, but you get the idea). Fortunately for us, single sign-on is a reality with IBM and Lotus products. In this session, you'll learn the basics of SSO mechanisms and standards, how it is implemented in Domino, and how it extends to the environment. Your speaker will demonstrate a lab with more than a dozen servers (and a client!) in happy coexistence -- Domino, Sametime, QuickPlace, WebSphere Portal 5.0 and 5.1, Workplace Services Express, Workplace Managed Client, and Workplace Collaboration Services. You'll learn what is required for this utopian SSO environment, what you need to correct before starting, and what to avoid like the plague!

You may be surprised at the number of ways there are to consume a Domino 7 Web service. But now that you know how to create them on the server, it's time to get them out there! The speakers have found some creative ways to consume Web services on the client side, and you'll get to see them in action. Prepare to be surprised!

OK, nice. Catchy name. Now back to work! While Domino developers have just recently begun working with Ajax, there has been a whole world of professional Web development out there focused on DHTML. You've learned the basics of JavaScript, XML, and how you can combine them to produce highly dynamic application components. In this session we'll get down and dirty with more examples of what you can do with the concepts behind Ajax, REST and JSON.

You have all the IBM Lotus products (or even just a few) and the functionality is awesome, users are productive, and your organization immediately sees the benefits of collaboration on the Web. But these products come out of the box yellow, purple, grey, blue, and black, and have many methods of customization. In this session, you'll learn how to pull it all together. Using key methods and practices you learned during the week, and adding in a lots of new material, you'll learn how to achieve Web user interface consistency and design with Lotus Domino, DWA, Portal, WSE, and WCS. This session will give you essential knowledge, free examples, and live demos as a starting point for professional-looking deployment. You learned many of the underpinnings of this session during the main conference -- CSS, JavaScript, skins and themes, and DHTML -- and during this session, you'll bring it all together.
