Announcement -- SnappShot® 8 for Sametime® 8
Category SametimeA commercial for our one ISV product! That's right folks, I border on commercial once in a while, and today is my day to lay it on thick!
It's been a while since I've mentioned SnappShot, the chat recording, archiving and compliance tool for Sametime. Today I posted the evaluation version of SnappShot 8, which adds richer support for Sametime 8 on the server and between Sametime Connect clients. The main new features are the capture of images and nice, readable transcripts.
SnappShot has been in the market for 7 years and has evolved with the Sametime server, providing companies with regulatory compliance and stewardship over their Sametime installations. As a server-based enterprise solution, SnappShot has a simple Notes interface for both configuration and use. After installing a DLL and license key, an administrator simply signs and configures a Domino database using the Lotus Notes client. Installation usually takes 15-30 minutes, including a server restart.
There are three kinds of documents in the SnappShot database:
Activity Documents: Define the parameters, people, time, and security options for the server to capture transcripts. Options include capturing transcripts for All Users or selected users, robust security options including multiple private key signatures and reader field controls, and the ability to forward raw transcripts to an email address (a person, or more likely another enterprise archive product).
Notification Profiles: In addition to the overall notification defined in an Activity document, Notification Profile documents provide a method to send emails on a very granular level based on who participates in a transcript. Developed for a SnappShot customer, this feature can permit - for instance - a supervisor to receive all chat transcripts for members of his/her department, or any other combination of individually specified users. In addition, an "exclude" feature allows you to maintain corporate privacy policies - for instance, you can activate a notification profile as above, but exclude it from notification when any other named individual (such as a Human Resources person, or a CEO) is also a participant.
Transcripts: The heart of SnappShot, the transcript document is automatically generated based on the Activity document settings. Each transcript records the start time, end time, participants, and full transcript of the Sametime session -- both in an easily readable format and (in a collapsed section) in raw HTML format. There are two views of the data, by User and by Date/Time.
SnappShot databases can be archived with simple LotusScript agents or manually, and the design is open so your organization can customize views or add agents (for instance, customers have done this to identify specific words or add a web-based search interface). SNAPPS can also make these customizations for you.
Versions: SnappShot 8 works only with the Sametime 8.0.1 server on Domino 8.0.1 or higher, and supports all Sametime client combinations including the embedded Notes client. SnappShot may be deployed in a limited-use embedded environment, or on a fully licensed Sametime server. SnappShot 7 works with all supported versions of the Sametime server, but does not include the new features in SnappShot 8.
Download: The best way to experience SnappShot is to download an eval copy, which is a 21-day fully functional version of the product. There is documentation and support during the evaluation period. To try SnappShot, Download it here.
Now back to my regularly scheduled Lotusphere teasing.
