Lotusphere 2007 Sessions, a.k.a. My Big Sexy HTML Post
Category NoneSo once again, I'm honored to be invited to speak at Lotusphere, and promise to deliver a lot of value in each session. I was more strategic and conservative this year than in years past, submitting only two sessions initially, then a few more by request, ending up with four between me and my team at SNAPPS. Here's what we have in store, and will be working on throughout December and January:
BP310: IBM Lotus QuickPlace Integration and Application Development - Thinking Outside the Box
Abstract:
After 8 years, Lotus QuickPlace is cool again, and has a long life ahead! Isn't it about time you delivered great business value to your organization by extending it beyond the standard templates? Sometimes approaching Lotus QuickPlace this way can be confusing, so we'll clear it all up and provide solid examples of collaborative applications including blogs and wikis that you can deploy right away. This session will introduce you to programming choices and methods you'll see in the next version of QuickPlace that you can deploy today! We'll also explain how to decide when IBM Lotus QuickPlace needs some help from IBM Lotus Domino, and how to integrate them for the best possible design.
Speakers: Viktor Krantz and Troy Reimer
Comments: We've been doing QuickPlace sessions for what, 6 years? So this year, after about 10 minutes on QuickPlace customization basics, we're going to show you the best of the best in QuickPlace development techniques, introducing two new concepts to extend and enhance your deployment. First, we'll discuss when QuickPlace's architecture can benefit from Domino application development, why, and concrete examples of a technique we've used to deploy automation for tens of thousands of users with very little maintenance and no placebots.
Next, we take a deep dive into three freely available templates for QuickPlace, exposing Web 2.0 and Ajax capabilities to create enhanced document management, blogs, and wikis in QuickPlace. Even if you've seen Viktor, Troy or Rob talk about QuickPlace before, this all-new session is guaranteed to enlighten and educate you!
BP311: The Great Code Giveaway - Web 2.0 Edition
Abstract:
Ajax, Ajax, Ajax! IBM Lotus Domino developers can't get enough of it, but let's not forget that Web 2.0 encompasses more than just Ajax. In this session, learn how to develop in Lotus Domino with killer Web 2.0 techniques for Ajax, REST, JSON, RSS and more. We've scoured the Internet for open-source toolkits and libraries, added our own code and wrapped it up once again for you to take home for FREE! We've done the hard work for you -- so you can go home and develop killer Lotus Domino applications!
Speakers: Rob Novak and Viktor Krantz
Comments: Scouring the planet for goodies and building them into Domino has been a favorite hobby of Rob and Viktor's - so now we've packaged up some of the coolest, sexiest code we could find and exposed Domino design elements in ways you will swear aren't Domino! Our goal - you go home, spend some time tinkering, and your boss says "THAT'S DOMINO?!?!?!?" Join us for this rapid-fire, just-the-right-amount-of-code, fun session and come away with a new perspective on the platform you've come to know and love.
BDD202: It's All About Value! How to Sell, Get The Fees You Deserve, and Write Killer Proposals
Abstract:
So you think a small business partner doesn't have the ability to land big business? Your "sales force" - usually one person who also runs the business - doesn't have the skill, experience, or (my favorite) time to sell? Wrong! We are all inevitably faced with opportunities that will allow us to grow to the next level. This session is delivered by a small IBM Business Partner that has successfully landed new business at some of the world's largest companies - beating out huge consulting firms. We'll investigate the world of complex sales and show how even one-person Business Partner firms can generate new business with some practical advice on marketing, sales, value, and a serious look at how to approach sales proposals.
Speaker: Rob Novak
Comments: This session - formerly known as "Slaying the Dragon!" has grown in popularity with fresh perspectives each year on big-time sales for small IBM Business Partners. Why a sales session for partners? Beats me, but in 2006 we packed two sessions full! One attendee tracked me down four months later and explained how the frank, open discussion of sales and "thinking big" transformed his business. I've been studying complex sales methodologies, overcoming fear, and landing sales with large enterprises for seven years in my five-person shop...and am happy to share from that experience.
BDD105: Collaborative Document Management Product Futures
Abstract:
In this session we will start with laying down the Lotus strategy for team collaboration and document management. After a quick review of the capabilities of the current portfolio, illustrated with custom deployments and partner success stories, we will expose the 2007 plans and pepper the presentation with exciting live demos of the upcoming product releases. This will be an exciting time for any IBM Business Partner involved with document management and team collaboration opportunities as IBM Lotus Quickplace returns and other new versatile products in this space are delivered in 2007.
Speakers: Rob Novak, Marc Pagnier (IBM) and Satwik Seshasai (IBM)
Comments: I'll participate through demos and stories in this Business Development Day session with Marc Pagnier, Senior Product Manager. My role is one of a partner whose business is transforming companies with collaborative document capabilities in the Lotus product suite, and what I plan to do about the changes in the coming months and years. Once I figure it out...!
