If I only sold one product...oh yeah, I do. For Sametime. Huh?
Category SnappShot Sametime 8.5Some of you might think SNAPPS is just an ISV with a stupid business model - with all the free stuff I post for Domino, Quickr, Sametime and more. But most of you know we have multiple business lines including a strategy practice, technical consulting, and education and training. We don't really identify ourselves as an ISV.
But the truth of the matter is that we do have one product for which we have endeavored to part enterprises with a little of their money - SnappShot® Chat Recorder for Lotus Sametime. First released in 2002 for Sametime 2.5, SnappShot is a server-side chat recorder that securely stores and manages chat transcripts between Sametime users. One-to-one, n-way, meeting chats, embedded chats, chats in Sametime Advanced, really anywhere.
The history of this product is that my friend Bob Balaban chatted me up on the idea, then weeks later while mulling it over, out of the blue a customer request for just this thing was brought to us our by partners in London, the Turtle Partnership. Time warp, and several years ago I bought out Bob's half (an employer required it) but even so, he has been awesome and has pitched in when I've needed an occasional hand with a new feature or version. That customer (#1!) for SnappShot is still actively using it and was the first customer to receive our newest Gold code drop a week ago.
Primarily a regulatory compliance tool but also for employee compliance with policies, SnappShot is in use by companies worldwide and has been continually updated with Sametime releases. Many companies are required by law to keep the same archive of records of IM (it is electronic communications after all) as they are of email. The same diligence must be applied to both kinds of communications. By "the same" of course I mean the same policies must be applied, balanced with privacy laws in some countries.
There were some API changes and challenges (and surprise! documentation issues!) in Sametime 8.5, but we have overcome those with the help of IBM and Bob and thus are pleased to announce SnappShot 8.5. I'm also happy to let you know we are actively working on five new features for a subsequent release.
All SnappShot clients on maintenance are entitled to the upgrade (when you move to Sametime 8.5 - we're in step with each version), and anyone with a valid corporate email address can evaluate SnappShot free, feature complete, for 21 days by registering for the evaluation on our website. SNAPPS continues to offer evaluations and support SnappShot 7, 8, and now 8.5.
